Toronto, ON, September 4, 2008-Rob Trimbee, who for the last two years has been VoicePrint’s fee-for-service manager at Ottawa, returns to Toronto this fall to again oversee AudioVision’s (“AVC”) overall operations.
AudioVision and VoicePrint are the two operating divisions of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc. (“NBRS”), a not-for-profit and registered charity set up in 1990 to enhance access to all media by people living with disabilities, particularly the more than 5 million who are blind, low vision, living with mobility and/or agility disabilities and seniors.
Prior to joining AVC in 1998 and during the last two years Rob’s focus has been on VoicePrint activities. During his recent assignment at Ottawa he also represented the interests of AVC in its dealings with federal government departments and agencies, Telefilm and the National Film Board.
AudioVision, set up in 1995, is Canada’s pioneer and pre-eminent supplier of video description services, the versioning of cinematographic works so they are accessible by people who cannot see a TV screen or see it well. It’s a process that many say does for people with no or low vision what captioning does for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Prior to joining NBRS, Rob worked as a manager with various telecommunications companies. His initial work at AVC was to exploit the commercial potential of video description through services such as AVC’s Library Audio Description service, developing consumer interest in AVC’s catalogue of described video products throughout Canada, the United States, Australia and Great Britain. While at Ottawa he re-established ties between VoicePrint and its French-language counterpart, La Magnétothèque of Montreal as well as with NFB.
Effective today, Rob assumes overall managerial responsibility for AVC, including monitoring the effectiveness and quality of division operations, promoting market growth and creating a demand for AVC services while sustaining market place leadership for quality and response to consumer needs.
“I am excited to be returning to Toronto and take on the challenge of enhancing current AVC services and developing new income-generating opportunities. AVC’s continued marketplace presence is important if the overall NBRS corporation is to achieve its mission of working alone or in partnership with others to reduce barriers to all media. For AVC that’s especially important in the area of theatrical and television activities.”
